ANALYS OF A RURAL LANDSCAPE

A rural landscape is an area which is located outside the cities and towns. The word rural means: “ All population, housing, and territory not include within an urban area. This landscape is the only which includes biotic, abiotic and anthropic elements.

This image shows a mountainous area, possibly located in a high mountain range, like Alpes, Pyrenees, Caucasus, etc.

According to the physical factors, this pictures shows a relief characterized by the existence of peaks and tall mountains , and a land with many slopes

The vegetation in this area is a mix of forests in some places, and grassland in others. This type of landscape includes: pines, beech and also, there is a huge concentration of moss that is stuck to the rocks.

In the picture we can not see any river, lake, or any kind of waters. But it is not rare to find any of them in this type of landscape.

According to all these, the climate of this location could be described as an alpine climate.

With regard to the land usage we can say that farming, especially irrigated type, is the main use of the land. Monoculture (a type of agriculture in which only one crop is grown) is the type of agripulture that people in this village practice, because we can see that all the land is with the same colour. Traditional way of working the land is used in this photo because there are not a very huge piece of land in which the modern machines must be used, also there is not enough space for the machines to work. A secondary use of it could be livestock raising (deer, cows, oats and sheeps). Activities in this type of landscapes are mainly recreational (tourism), and residential. Communication networks consists basically in paths within the village and small roads outside the village to connect it to other villages around. 

In addition, the landscape shows a Bocage pattern with fields that are very irregular one from the other and are divided by trees or bushes.

Some of the problems of the rural areas are the demography because is very low and that ends in a clear lack of services for the little, but existing, population of this places. They probably haven´t got access to school, communications, health care, etc.

Among the measures that can be applied to deal with the demography and the lack of services problems, one could be: build better ways to comunicate (roads, paths) from one village to another so people could get services from other villages that they do not have in their own one. Another suggestion to solve this problems could be: Make tourism more atractive to visitors so more people would come and leave money here, and may be they could fall in love with this landscape and stay here for living.
